Support the Creation of a Dedicated Endometrial Cancer Research Program

The U.S. House of Representatives is beginning work on the Fiscal Year 2027 appropriations bills, including funding for the Department of Defense Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP).

Representative Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ) is leading a Dear Colleague letter requesting the creation of a dedicated Endometrial Cancer Research Program within the CDMRP with $10 million in initial funding.

Why This Matters

Endometrial cancer is the most common gynecologic cancer in the United States, yet it remains significantly underfunded relative to its growing impact.

  • Endometrial cancer: ~68,000 new cases and ~14,000 deaths each year
  • Ovarian cancer: ~20,000 new cases and ~13,000 deaths each year
  • Cervical cancer: ~13,000 new cases and ~4,000 deaths each year

Despite its growing burden, more than 350,000 women in the United States are projected to be diagnosed with endometrial cancer over the next five years and approximately 75,000 women are expected to die from the disease during that time.

Unlike many other cancers where mortality has declined due to advances in screening and treatment, endometrial cancer is one of the few cancers where both incidence and mortality are increasing.

Despite this rising burden, there is currently no dedicated Endometrial Cancer Research Program within the Department of Defense Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP).
